Bendigo: Oscar Woods to Perform at Ulumbarra Theatre Concert

Oscar Woods, a former Girton student and trainee pilot, will showcase his guitar skills at the Top Class Regional Bendigo concert on May 3, 2026. The event will take place at the Ulumbarra Theatre and highlight high-scoring VCE and VCE VET students from across Victoria.

Woods completed year 12 at Girton with an almost perfect mark in VCE Music Repertoire (Performance). He plans to perform At First Light by Steve Erquiaga during the concert. Currently, he is studying for a Bachelor of Aviation and a Graduate Certificate in Piloting.

Woods aims to work for international commercial airlines like Qantas. He expressed enthusiasm about balancing his passion for music with his aviation studies. “I’m aiming for international commercial airlines, like Qantas,” he said.

Before his final VCE exam, Woods felt nervous but managed to calm himself during performances. “I sort of calmed down during the performance because you get in that mindset where you’re playing and all you’re focusing on is the music, and that was really enjoyable,” he noted.

Woods is committed to continuing his guitar playing throughout his life. “I’m definitely going to be playing until the end of my days, because what else was the point in learning how to play?” he added.
