A Florida infant was born twice after undergoing a groundbreaking surgery that involved a partial delivery to save his life. Cassian Joubert, born on May 6, 2026, faced congenital high airway obstruction syndrome, a rare condition affecting about one in every 50,000 births.

Keishera Joubert, Cassian’s mother, stated, “We’re planning just a small party for his birthday, [the] anniversary of his surgery that saved his life – and then, of course, for his ‘birth’ birthday, we’re going to have another … bash for him there to celebrate a whole year.” This innovative surgical approach involved partially delivering Cassian while he remained attached to his mother’s placenta.

Cassian spent four months in the neonatal intensive care unit. He was born weighing only 3lbs (1.4kg). Dr. Emanuel Vlastos noted the significance of the moment when the Jouberts took Cassian home. He said, “Him coming home … is the magnum opus of this whole situation.”

The A2 Milk Company recently recalled over 63,000 containers of infant formula due to contamination with cereulide. This toxin can cause foodborne illness in infants. The recall affects three batches of formula with specific batch numbers.

Key details of the recall:

  • More than 63,000 containers recalled in the US
  • Contamination caused by Bacillus cereus
  • No confirmed illnesses reported related to the recall

The AP-7 highway in l’Hospitalet de l’Infant experienced traffic delays on the same day due to an accident. This highway is crucial for connecting several provinces along the Mediterranean coast.

Cassian’s case is planned for presentation at an international medical conference in Japan in October. Medical professionals hope this groundbreaking procedure will pave the way for future treatments.
