Jayson Tatum was ruled out for Game 7 against the Philadelphia 76ers due to left knee stiffness. This unexpected absence raises concerns for the Boston Celtics after Tatum’s recent return from an Achilles injury.
Tatum experienced left leg soreness during Game 6 and was a late addition to the injury report. Head coach Joe Mazzulla confirmed that Tatum came in with knee discomfort and the medical team decided he should not play.
Tatum missed most of the regular season after tearing his right Achilles tendon last May. Before being ruled out, he averaged 23.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 6.8 assists in the series against the 76ers.
The Celtics led the series 3-1 before the 76ers won back-to-back games to force Game 7. Baylor Scheierman and Jordan Walsh are likely candidates to take Tatum’s minutes in this crucial matchup.
Tatum had briefly left Game 6 for treatment on his calf but downplayed the injury afterward, stating, “It was my other leg. So, not the one I injured last year. I wasn’t like overly concerned.” However, his current condition raises questions about his overall health.
Mazzulla expressed confidence in his players, saying, “He’ll play.” Yet, Tatum’s absence could significantly impact the Celtics’ performance as they aim to advance further in the NBA playoffs.
