Liam Lawson’s qualifying position was upgraded to 16th for the Miami Grand Prix Sprint Race after an investigation into Alex Albon’s lap time. Initially, Lawson qualified 17th but expressed frustration over his car’s performance during the session.

“My braking is really bad. I can’t brake for any of the f***ing corners. I’m braking so early,” Lawson said. His fastest lap time during SQ1 was recorded at 1m 31.043s.

Lando Norris secured pole position with a time of 1m 27.869s. Meanwhile, Lawson’s teammate Arvid Lindblad will start from 15th position.

The Miami Grand Prix weekend marks the return of Formula 1 racing after a five-week break, following cancellations in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia due to the war in Iran. Currently, Lawson sits in 10th place in the World Drivers Standings.

Key facts:

  • Liam Lawson initially qualified 17th but was upgraded to 16th after Albon’s violation.
  • Lando Norris achieved pole position with a fastest lap of 1m 27.869s.
  • The sprint race is scheduled for Sunday at 8am NZT.

Lawson noted, “A series of unfortunate events in SQ1 meant that we didn’t have the Sprint Quali we were hoping for today.” However, he added, “The car has improved from this morning though, so we’ll take positives from this into tomorrow.”

The FIA will oversee the events as teams prepare for the sprint race amidst ongoing competition.
