Fiji Airways Suspends Dallas Route Amid Rising Costs

Fiji Airways will suspend its Dallas route starting September 7, 2026, due to high fuel costs and changing passenger demand.

Fiji Airways is suspending service between Nadi and Dallas-Fort Worth on September 7, 2026. The decision stems from rising fuel costs and shifting passenger demand.

The Dallas route covers 6,624 miles and was operated up to 3 times weekly using Airbus A350-900 aircraft. Jet fuel prices have more than doubled since the start of the year, impacting operational costs significantly.

Despite this suspension, Fiji Airways will continue to serve the U.S. with up to 11 flights per week to Los Angeles and San Francisco. Passengers booked on the Dallas route will be contacted directly with updated travel details.

Key facts:

  • The Dallas route was launched in December 2024 as Fiji Airways’ longest sector.
  • The airline plans to upgrade its Vancouver flights from A330 to A350 starting September 8, 2026.
  • Fiji Airways recorded an all-time visitor record for March 2026.

Paul Scurrah, CEO of Fiji Airways, stated, “These changes allow us to focus on markets where we are seeing the strongest and most sustainable demand.” He emphasized that the combination of unfavorable economics and limited demand makes a return to the Dallas route highly unlikely.

The airline has established a codeshare partnership with American Airlines as part of the Oneworld Alliance, which allows for continued connectivity between Fiji and other U.S. destinations despite the Dallas suspension. Observers note that this strategy could mitigate some impact from reduced aircraft capacity on less profitable routes.
