Anne Hathaway recently clarified that no models were fired for size inclusivity in The Devil Wears Prada 2. This statement counters misinformation circulating about the film.
The sequel is set to be released in theaters on May 1, 2026. Much of the film was shot in New York City and Italy, including locations like Milan and Lake Como. David Frankel returns as director, with Wendy Finerman producing.
Hathaway, who reprises her role as Andy Sachs, stated that the producers were receptive to her suggestions for inclusivity. She emphasized that the film aims to create more jobs rather than firing individuals.
Meryl Streep also returns as Miranda Priestly. Hathaway noted that she wanted a wider range of bodies on display in the film. She said, “There’s a little misinformation getting out there right now that people were fired because of the size inclusivity and that just didn’t happen.”
The original film was released 20 years ago and focused on Andy’s challenges as an assistant to Priestly at Runway magazine. The sequel addresses the current state of the magazine publishing industry, which is undergoing significant changes.
Hathaway described her character as more confident and mature this time around. She remarked, “I thought the scene would be so much more enjoyable for the audience if we had just a wider range of bodies on display.”
Streep praised Hathaway’s commitment to inclusivity, calling her “a standup girl.” Hathaway added that some cast members initially felt regret for not considering size inclusivity sooner, saying, “They looked up and were so sad that they hadn’t thought about it.”
