The legacy of the Supercars Championship’s Hamilton Street Circuit continues as its infrastructure relocates to a new speedway venue in Meremere, New Zealand. The Hamilton Street Circuit hosted the championship from 2008 to 2012. It was a regular stop on the summer-time touring car calendar for Australians.

The Pukekohe Park Raceway also played a significant role, hosting the full championship from 2001 to 2007 and then again from 2013 to 2019. However, the Hamilton Street Circuit officially closed for motorsport in April 2023, prompting this move.

Mitch Evans has been with Jaguar TCS Racing since its debut campaign in 2016. He has achieved considerable success, claiming 15 wins and accumulating over 1000 championship points in Formula E. “To have been with Jaguar TCS Racing right from the beginning and achieved so much success throughout the last ten years in Formula E has been incredible,” said Evans.

Callum Hedge is another noteworthy figure. He won the New Zealand Toyota 86 title at just 15 years old and wrapped up the 2023 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia crown shortly after his 20th birthday. He also placed fourth in the Indy NXT standings in his rookie season. Hedge remarked, “I grew up watching Supercars as a kid. Like I never really watched Formula 1 or IndyCar; it wasn’t my thing growing up, it was always Supercars or endurance racing.”

The new venue at Meremere features a banking of 35 degrees at the 21 Speedway, located just 17 kilometers from Pukekohe and 2 kilometers north of Hampton Downs. This change aims to enhance the racing experience for fans and drivers alike.

Ian James, representing Jaguar TCS Racing, noted that “the partnership between Jaguar TCS Racing and Mitch has been synonymous with the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.” This underscores the importance of their collaboration within motorsport.

Yet, uncertainties remain regarding how this relocation will impact future events. Officials have not confirmed specific details about upcoming races or their schedules. The move marks a new chapter for Supercars in New Zealand, promising exciting developments ahead.
